What is Microdosing?

Microdosing is the practice of taking psychedelic or entheogenic substances on a regular basis (more on that in How do I Dose?), at levels below the threshold where psychoactive effects are observed.

There is a growing amount of research happening all over the world, showing the many benefits of microdosing. From big universities to MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies), science and society are finally catching on to one of the biggest tools used for millennia by cultures everywhere.

Some of the many benefits people find with microdosing include a greater sense of peace and acceptance, better mood and outlook, lower levels of anxiety and fear, increased creativity and focus, and an expanded awareness, both personally and universally.

For more details on the science of microdosing visit Third Waves Guide To Microdosing Psilocybin Mushrooms.

How do I Dose?

Dosing can be broken down to 2 types, Microdosing and Macrodosing.

Microdosing can take a bit more fine tuning, as you want to dose regularly enough to see the many benefits it offers, but if you dose too often, you will build up a tolerance, and will then either need to raise your dosage or take a break.

The most popular method is to dose either once every 2 days, or once every 3 days, with a week off every month or so. That being said, if you are researching, there are many different ways to do it. There is no right or wrong way to Microdose, you just want to be under the threshold for psychoactive effects, and not dosing too frequently to prevent building up a tolerance.

With any method, periodic breaks are always good, to allow the system to integrate, re-calibrate, reset tolerance, and of course, because this practice is a tool, to be used in a supportive role, not as a crutch.

A typical Microdose is between 100-200mg (of psychoactive mushrooms), depending on how sensitive you are, although some people require more or less. We generally recommend people start at 100mg (our Nootropic100 as well as our full line of herbal microdose formulas contain 100mg) unless they are quite sensitive, in which case our Nootropic Gentle Caps (with 50mg of Psilocybe Cubensis) is a great option.

A Macrodose is a bit more straight forward, it begins with psychoactive effects being observed (which can vary from anywhere from as little as 200mg up to 1 gram (1000mg) or more), and can go as high as 5 grams or more.
Always ensure you have proper setting before venturing into Macrodosing, a comfortable environment is essential, and if with others, with good, safe, trusted people.

Also, remember that what you experience will vary greatly from person to person, body weight, sensitivity, previous experience, even the last time you ate all affect how you will respond to the medicine. No two people are the same, so it’s always wise to start smaller and proceed with experience.

Magic mushrooms are mushrooms with entheogenic properties (definition of entheogen can be found just above). They go by many other names, such as Psilocybin, Psilocybe, Cubensis, and many other strain specific names, such as Golden Teachers, Cambodians, Blue Cubenis, etc.

There has been an explosion of research around medicinal mushrooms of all types in recent years, but especially those that have entheogenic properties.

Science is only now starting to be able to explain out why we have evolved alongside these magnificent fungi, and why every indigenous culture in history have used mushrooms and other entheogens to expand consciousness and to help heal the body, as well as the mind, emotional body and spirit.

What is a Nootropic?

A Nootropic is any substance–food, herb, mushroom or drug, that increases cognitive function, focus, memory, creativity or motivation. They are used to boost brain performance, and to help prevent or reduce cognitive decline.
